Am I Prepared for the “Polar Coaster” That Might Be Ahead This Winter?

Polar

The Farmers’ Almanac is predicting harsh winter weather throughout the coming months, as it projects that 2/3 of the country will experience a “freezing, frigid and frosty” winter. The weather prediction also included the forecast of a “polar coaster,” or temperatures going up and down from October 2019, through March 2020. And so far this winter season, that seems to be true. How can you prepare and stay warm despite the up and down temperatures? The warm days won’t last, be prepared for extreme cold weather!

How Can I Plan Ahead for the Polar Coaster?

Remember delivery next day or sooner still takes prep time for our team to set up, orders can be delayed due to inclement weather during the winter months. Extreme temperature drops in the polar coaster might lead to additional delays, so we always suggest that you check our website or our social media pages for any updates on our oil delivery time-frames.

How Can I Monitor Oil Tank Levels?

To prepare for the polar coaster, will-call customers will want to keep a close eye on the heating oil tank levels. We recommend using old school math and calculating the levels in your tank. For information on checking oil tank levels click here. Another option is investing in a wireless tank monitor, which is an affordable way to always know how much heating oil is left in your tank. Wireless tank monitors can be found on Amazon.

In general, we suggest that you place your order when your heating oil tank gauge reads ¼ full. We never suggest allowing your levels to dip below that, as you could run out of fuel during the polar coaster cold snap.

How Can I Keep My Home Comfortable?

At Tevis Energy, we know all about how to keep a home comfortable! The primary key is energy conservation. Dress in warm layers and keep the thermostat set at a reasonable temperature, 68-70 degrees. Lower the thermostat slightly at night. Programmable thermostats are great for keeping the temperature consistent.

Heating oil is an excellent way to affordably heat your home, as it feels warmer than other methods of heating. Why? It is a wet heat. Heating oil is heated and then vaporized for it to burn, which creates a wet heat that feels warmer and cozier than heat created from other sources.

We pride ourselves on offering cost-effective heating oil deliveries to residents in cities and towns in Maryland and south-central Pennsylvania.
