Weren’t those fall leaves gorgeous this year! Now, if only they would stay on the trees instead of covering the lawn. Well, we all know that’s not going to happen, so be nice to your heating oil delivery driver and clear those leaves from around your fill pipe. Our drivers care about you and your comfort and appreciate the efforts you make to help them serve you safely and efficiently.
What else should you do to prepare for the heating oil delivery season? Here’s a checklist of simple things you can do to help assure uninterrupted delivery service this year.
In addition to removing any fallen leaves, please thin out any dense shrubbery around the fill location, and clear out any nests you find, too. The heating oil tank’s vent pipe is a favorite place for bugs to build nests over the summer, so they need to be cleared out as well. Clogged vent pipes can interfere with your heating oil deliveries.
Now that most of the leaves have fallen, it won’t be long before that white fluffy stuff starts falling from the sky. In fact, with a stronger than normal El Niño brewing on the west coast, we might see some pretty good snow accumulations this year. And when it does, you’re going to want to be certain our delivery driver can identify your house. You can help assure your heating oil is delivered to the right tank by making sure your house number is visible. If it should get buried during a storm, a cardboard sign stuck in the snowbank can be very helpful to your delivery driver. Additionally, please be sure you clear the driveway to 10 feet wide and create a simple footpath to your fill location. It doesn’t have to be perfect, just something safe and reasonable for our driver.
If you have multiple fill pipes, be sure to mark the one that is attached to the tank you want to fill. (By law, fill pipes that are not attached to a viable tank must be permanently sealed.)
As a reminder, if you are planning to put your house on the market or it has become vacant, please let us know. We are happy to adjust your heating oil deliveries accordingly. Now is also a good time to make sure the phone numbers and email addresses we have on file are correct to ensure we are able to reach you in an emergency. If you are unsure, please call or use the Contact Us form on the website.
